Canadian Pointer History
Canadian Pointers were originally bred in areas of Maine and the Adirondack Mountains of upstate Ny in the late 1880's like a longer-hair version of the well-liked English Pointer. Despite its title, the breed was not created in Canada, though many believe the origin from the name is taken from the truth that early developers of the type used Labrador Retrievers (local to Canada) in cross-breeding along with English Pointers and Portuguese Pointers. The breed fell almost into complete extinction through the 1930's until it was revitalized with a few breeders in Connecticut. These days, the Canadian Pointer remains among the smallest of breeds with only 114 registered dogs within the U. S.

Canadian Pointer Description
The Canadian Pointer has a thick coat around 1 1/2 inches long. This coat helps it hunt in cold temperature. This breed comes in 3 colors. The first is monochrome and the other two tend to be dark and light shades associated with brown and white. Spotting from the same color as the coat sometimes appears mostly on the legs. The tail will traditionally measure 10-12 inches and can appear with a curl approximately three-fourths along the tail. Male 30 in . or less 48–60 pounds Woman 22-28 inches 44–54 pounds.

Canadian Pointer Temperament
Canadian Pointers like most gundogs are of even temperament and therefore are congenial as house pets. Though originally bred for that outdoors, they are perfectly content like a house dog lounging on the household sofa. They will insist on being the main pack and do well in family settings with young children.

While out on the walk your dog must be made to heel beside or behind the individual holding the lead, as instinct tells your dog the leader leads the method, and that leader needs to become the human. Canadian Pointer Care
