Cretan Hound History
A primitive hunting breed, its existence on the Greek cart of Crete is documented in writing and artifacts not less than 3500 years. The Cretan Hound is a great primitive hunting breed. There are artifacts and writings that document the presence of these dogs. These dogs were used and cultivated with a Minoan civilization. Cretan Hounds served under coursing and tracking hounds, and used to be used for chasing and catching wilderness rabbits and hare on harsh terrains. In olden days, these dogs were brought to the Greek colonies and various european countries. It's theorized that the ancestors over these dogs may have come from African, but they eventually adapted life into Crete. These dogs were isolated close to you for so long that they continued to be pure. The breeding practices used of these dogs were severe, and that's why this breed is particularly strong and healthy.
Cretan Hound Description
The Cretan Hound is slender and comparatively tall. Their stature is between a scenthound and a slighthound, and is particularly swift and light on with their feet. The breed is slightly longer than tall, and they have medium angulations, sexy legs, and excellent muscle. They have an average-sized rib cage that works spacious and doesn’t quite meet how much the elbow. They have a helpful, slender loin and good tuck-up, with their hipbones are slightly pronounced. The breed’s tip is elongated, wedge-shaped, and features a set of pricked, mobile ears that fold for any greyhound-like fashion. They have tight skin that exists in a number of colors. One of the distinguishing characteristics of the breed is its long, curved tail that forms a loose or tight ring during the dog’s back. The tail is blown underneath with longer hair. Their short-haired coat is in pure white, sandy, grey, cream, fuss, black, brindle, bi-colored, or tri-colored.
Cretan Hound Temperament
Alert, intelligent, gentle, on the hunt littered dash, dare & stamina, persistent, daring and tireless, at home meek, obedient, courteous, affectionate, graceful. Cretan Hound Care
The Cretan Hound is a great short haired breed. It is also a standard shedder. This breed would not need a long grooming routine. A firm bristled brush occasionally utilized on the coat will maintain its shape and will help distribute the oils that moisturize the skin. Being a video hunter, the dog can get is quite dirty and smelly. The dog this would be bathed using a mild soap. Your feet, the mouth and the ears needed to be regularly checked and cleaned.
