The tomato juice bath didn't work, so how do you get the stink off your dog who just got sprayed by a skunk?
Step 1 Mix neutralizing mixture: 2 parts baking soda 2 parts hydrogen peroxide 1 part dish soap
Mixture should be like a paste, so make it slightly thinner than toothpaste so that it works easily into the dogs coat. Amounts of each depend on the size of dog.
Step 2When the dog is ready to bed bathed, in the tub or outside, before wetting the dog down, smell close to the dogs skin to try and pinpoint exactly where the smell is coming from. You can then concentrate on that area.
Step 3Wet the entire dog. Add mixture to dogs coat, paying extra attention to the area that smells the most concentrated. Be careful not to get mixture into eyes. You can put a drop of mineral oil or baby oil to avoid this, however it may leave a greasy ring around the eye if you miss the eye.
Step 4LEAVE THIS ON FOR AT LEAST 15 MINUTES. If the dog has been skunked badly, leave it on longer- up to 30 minutes.
Step 5Rinse the dog completely. This will take longer to rinse out than normal dog shampoos because of the dish soap in it. Towel dry
Step 6If the dog still smells, repeat. *Skunk smell is more noticable when a dog is wet. If you smell it faintly when the dog is wet, you probably won't smell it once the dog is dry.
